THE YEAR OF BOYGENIUS SOLO WORK

It has been almost a year since supergroup boygenius announced their hiatus, leaving the trio’s dedicated fan base wondering what Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker, and Lucy Dacus will do next individually. The group’s members were relatively quiet in 2024, especially following their major releases and tour the previous year. 2025 seems to be looking different, however.
Within the past week, both Baker and Dacus have shared projects. The former has continued her collaboration with TORRES, releasing a line dancing-centered music video for the pair’s new country single, “Sugar in the Tank”. Suited up in classic country garb, Julien Baker and TORRES performed this track on The Tonight Show in December. The two have a docket of concert dates lined up for the spring and summer, hitting eight American cities together, largely at festivals. Seeing these artists join together, fans can’t help but imagine they will release a joint country album.
If so, it would not be the only new album from a boygenius member; Lucy Dacus has announced that her record, “Forever Is A Feeling”, will come out on March 28th. She also shared two singles on January 15th, entitled “Ankles” and “Limerence”. Touching upon themes of intimacy and emotional repression, respectively, these tracks are both driven by orchestral instrumentals. While “Limerence” feels somber and pining, “Ankles” is bright and hopeful, demonstrating Dacus’s range musically, talents that will certainly be flexed on the album to come. Fans in North America can also look forward to seeing Lucy Dacus live this spring with her tickets going on sale this week.

While boygenius showed how far teamwork (and insane talent) can take musicians, it is exciting to see what its first-rate members will do outside the group now that they have grown even more in acclaim. Though Baker has so far opted to continue collaborating with other musicians, Dacus is continuing her solo career in this time of hiatus. As for Bridgers, it is unclear
what her next move may be. Regardless, boygenius fans will have plentiful entertainment in the months to come.
